Two years ago, we reached out to you, our loyal community, to gather insights on what you’d love to see in a Single-Edge Razor. Your feedback was invaluable. We learned that preferences for blades and razor designs vary significantly, and this gave us a clearer understanding of the advantages and challenges of single-edge razors.

Since then, we’ve been eager to put various concepts to the test, exploring different blade types and designs. After nearly a year of extensive trials and adjustments, we're excited to share that the AMAKUNI, our first single-edge razor, is almost here.

NEW Amakuni SE RAZOR
We'll tell you why Amakuni Yasutsuna, an 8th-century Japanese swordsmith, is celebrated as the pioneer who revolutionized Japanese swordmaking. Before his innovations, Japanese swords were primarily double-edged (chokuto), straight blades inspired by Chinese designs. Widely used during the Kofun period (3rd–6th century), these swords served well for certain techniques but lacked the resilience and fluidity suited to Japan’s evolving combat style.


As the head swordsmith to the Emperor, Amakuni was known for his exceptional skill. After witnessing warriors return from battle with broken swords, he became determined to create a stronger, more resilient blade. With his son as his apprentice, Amakuni embarked on a meticulous study of steel, perfecting the techniques of folding and hardening to produce a blade that could endure the toughest of combats.


The result was the katana, the first single-edged longsword (tachi), a curved sword with a strong spine and razor-sharp edge. This unique design provided unmatched strength, precision, and resilience in battle. The katana quickly became the archetype of Japanese swords, embodying Amakuni’s commitment to craftsmanship and setting a standard for swordsmiths that would last generations. Amakuni’s legacy of innovation and perfection endures, with the katana remaining an iconic symbol of Japanese artistry and martial skill.


Today, in honour of Amakuni Yasutsuna, we proudly introduce the name of our first Artist Club Single-Edge Razor design, THE AMAKUNI.


Just as Amakuni’s katanas embodied strength, precision, and resilience, we crafted this razor with a fluid design to deliver strength, accuracy, and smoothness with every stroke.
